Route Branding

An innovative new idea to trial alternative ways of finding systems with potential knock-on benefits for travel at night, maintenance costs and advantages for groups such as the visually impaired, very young or illiterate has been completed in Peterborough.

The route branding summary gives a detailed description of the trials which have been implemented in Peterborough. The route branding report gives an overview of the trials and presents some lessons learnt during the trials; including public opinion of the measures implemented.

External organizations

The Ramblers AssociationTC pics 01.02.07 054

With over 142,000 members the ramblers’ association has been working for walkers for almost 70 years. They support all who walk, from beginners to experienced enthusiasts, family groups to solitary strollers and the very young to the young at heart. They organise local walking activities and their website provides a useful source of detailed information on events and walking related activities, as well as information on maps, equipment and places to walk.

Peterborough Younger Walkers

Peterborough younger walkers is the local ramblers association group for people in their 20’s and 30’s from Peterborough and the surrounding area. If you enjoy the countryside and all it has to offer, would like to make new friends, discover new pubs and have fun whilst keeping fit at the same time, then why not give them a try.

SustransTC pics 01.02.07 059

Sustrans is the UK’s leading sustainable transport charity. Their vision is a world in which people choose to travel in ways that benefit their health and the environment. Every day they are working on practical, innovative ways of dealing with the transport challenges that affect us all.

Change 4 life

Change4life is a public health programme in the United Kingdom which began in January 2009, organised by the Department of Health. The campaign aims to encourage people in Britain to live healthier lives, using the slogan “eat well, move more, live longer”.

Walk EnglandTC pics 01.02.07 071

Walk England promotes walking as a way to be healthy, travel and relax – by bringing together and inspiring people who want to walk more, with those health, transport and environmental professionals responsible for supporting their choice.

Walking for Health (WfH)

WfH is for everyone with an interest in walking for health. They offer information, support and encouragement to complete beginners, existing walkers and health and leisure professionals. WfH aims to get more people walking in their own communities, particularly those who take little exercise or who live in areas of poor health.

Peterborough‘s Rights of Way Network

We manage more than 250km of public rights of way in and around Peterborough. We are responsible for maintaining a definitive map and statement (the legal record for the right of way) and asserting the public’s right to use public rights of way. For more information vist the city council website.

We think walking in and around town can often be a smart choice.

No timetables to keep to, no journey delays, little overcrowding, healthy, green, free, direct, access to services (and sunlight!) en route.

We don’t in any way pretend that you can substitute walking for all the urban car/bus/taxi/tube/metro trips you make. We do, however, want to at least help you make more informed decisions about whether you choose to walk for all, or part, of any given journey.

So that’s what motivates us, and we hope will motivate you.

We’re a small company but we’ve got big ambitions. We have a rolling programme of launches in new cities and towns, and we aim to add in new functionality and make other improvements on the basis of user feedback (and the number of hours in the day!).

Please contact us with your grumbles and your praise. Tell your mates about us. Bung a walkit.com link on your website. And most importantly, get walking.
