Wayfinding signs to get you to the right direction

Around 30 signs are being installed across the city centre from Broadway down to the Magistrates’ Court, and from Peterborough train station across to Vineyard Road.
A new easy-to-read city centre map will be the main focus of 13 information display signs that will highlight walking times to key destinations, display historical facts and help people navigate across the city centre.
Locations for the new signs will include Cowgate, Bridge Street and the City Market. There will also be more than a dozen smaller finger posts that will point people in the direction of places such as Central Library and the bus station. The large maps that currently sit in advertising boards in the city centre will be replaced by the new style maps.
Peterborough’s history will be a key part of the new signage with historical information on display about each location. This is part of the city’s ambition to better promote its 3,500 year history which stretches back to the Bronze Age.
For example, the new information display sign close to Cowgate will point out to visitors and residents that the street got its name from the livestock that used to be driven to market along it during medieval times, and that Charles Dickens and King Henry IV have connections to the area.

The Travelchoice Team at Peterborough City Council is working in partnership with Nene Park Trust in a bid to bring the Parkrun event to Peterborough.
Have you ever thought about going for a run but lacked the motivation to do it? Do you want to run in a race but too scared to participate? The Parkrun provides the opportunity to get active and change your lethargic lifestyle forever!
Parkrun is a 5 km running event which is successfully run at more than 15,000 locations across the country and the world. Every Saturday morning at 9am, more than 250,000 people from all walks of life get up and get moving together. It’s completely free and the only requirement is for runners to register on-line to receive their unique athlete number and identification barcode which needs to be printed before taking part. You can find more information on www.parkrun.org.uk.
The philosophy of the Parkrun is the creation of open and accessible events for everyone (no matter the ability). It’s a run, not a race where people have fun while they improve their health. Travelchoice are keen to promote sustainable travel options to the event including (as part of their active travel remit) getting people walking and cycling for health and wellbeing.
The location is Ferry Meadows and the launch is expected for the 3rd of August. Everyone is invited!
Volunteers are being recruited to run the event. Are you interested? Please e-mail the Sustainable Transport Team at [email protected]
